Embrace the reproof of the One who reproves you...
Be glad if you know God’s scolding. Be glad if you know what
it’s like to be convicted of sin. Be full of joy if you know what it’s like for
God to whip your heinie or stand you in the corner. Be thankful if God gives
you a good talking-to from time to time.
If God scolds you, that’s a good sign.
“My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of
his reproof, for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in
whom he delights.” (Proverbs 3:11-12 ESV)
I like the parent analogy here. Any decent, sensible parent
wants their children to be the absolute best they can be. The road to goodness
is not paved with sweeping character flaws, wrongdoing, or sin under the rug.
No, the road to goodness is paved with correction.
Think about it... you don’t have to teach your kids how to
sin, how to be self-centered, or how to be bad. You have to teach them the
paths of holiness, service, and goodness.
If we love our children, we shape them for the best of life.
God is a good, good Father, and He wants and wills the best
for those He’s adopted through Jesus Christ.
IF you are a child of God, you will know His correction.
