Rejoice in this day; the day the Lord has made.

"Let every corner of this day become an altar, Lord, for Thee."

I often think of those words from a former poet laureate of Texas, Sybil Armes. In its full, she once penned the following...

"Let every corner of this day
Become an altar, Lord, for Thee.
A quiet place where I can pray
And hear Thee talk to me.

"The bright expectancy of dawn
Will not endure the noon day heat
Unless refreshing strength is dawn
Where altars touch Thy feet."

— Sybil Leonard Armes

We know the words of Psalm 118:24, where the Psalmist writes, "This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." (ESV)

This is the day the Lord has made, and we should rejoice.
This is the day the Lord has made, and we should worship.
This is the day the Lord has made, and we should labor.
This is the day the Lord has made, and we should love.
This is the day the Lord has made, and...
...let every corner of this day become and altar, Lord...
...for Thee!

Indeed, we ought to worship, but not for just a moment, nor only at one place, nor only through one activity. The whole day ought to be lived AND enjoyed not only as before the Lord, but WITH the Lord! Abide! Abide!

If we cannot do it before the Lord, we ought not do it.
If we cannot do it with the Lord, we ought not do it.
If we cannot do it hidden in the Lord, we ought not do it.
That leaves everything good left to do!
That leaves everything holy left to do!
That leaves everything righteous left to do!
That leaves Kingdom labor and living left to do!
That leaves the gospel left to do!

Yes, indeed, "let every corner of this day become an altar, Lord, for Thee."
