Worldliness is a world of trouble!

Angels and cities...

Behavior indicates belief. No matter what we say, how we behave and what we pursue indicates what we really believe.

There have been angels and entire towns who indicated they did not honor God by their behavior, and God, who already knew their hearts, dealt with their actions. Jude said, "And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day—just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire." (Jude 1:6-7 ESV)

In context, Jude is speaking against heretics, and, at the heart of heresy, is belief that is contrary to God's character that leads to behavior that is contrary to God's nature. False belief is in itself an action! One simply cannot start with the wrong premise and expect to arrive at the right conclusion.

Likewise, in all the ways of worldliness, one cannot say they believe in pure and holy God and live any and every sort of way.

And, beloved, think on this, if God will judge majestic angels and entire cities, what would make us think our beliefs and actions are exempt from His gaze?

Now, and hear me clearly, before any of us start saying "Amen!", we ought to realize ALL HAVE SINNED and ALL HAVE FALLEN SHORT of the glory of God. Before we look through the windshield at the world, or out of the side window at our neighbor, we'd better check up and look in the mirror at ourselves.

Judgment begins at the house of the Lord. Angels are not exempt from judgment. Cities are not exempt from judgment. Nations are not exempt from judgment. I will not be exempt from judgment. You will not be exempt from judgment.

Are we ready? Is the grace that has been extended to us through Jesus affecting our lives? If we have breath, let us be humble before the Father, cast our hope on the Son, and be led of the Spirit. Let us look to our own sin, be broken and grieved, and come once again to Jesus.

Be blessed, beloved friends.
