Is you is or is you ain't...
Do you know that you know that you know that you know that
you are a child of God? What is your evidence to self?
God knows. I'd like to know, and the church would like some
benefit, but God knows and we ourselves need to know for our own confirmation.
Do you know the chastening hand of God? Do you know the
correction of the heavenly Father upon His earthly children?
When a good parent sees room for their children to grow,
they help them grow. When correction is needed, a good parent does not shirk
their responsibility. God is a good Father!
"Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines his
son, the LORD your God disciplines you." (Deuteronomy 8:5 ESV) "My
child, don’t make light of the LORD’s discipline, and don’t give up when he
corrects you. For the LORD disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one
he accepts as his child." (Hebrews 12:5b-6 NLT) "For whom the LORD
loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth."
(Proverbs 3:12 KJV) "LORD, happy is the man You discipline and teach from
Your law." (Psalm 94:12 HCSB)
The Father desires a result: "Those whom I love, I
reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent." (Revelation 3:19 ESV)
Many of us just zippity-do-dah along, ignoring God's
commands, refusing to live as His witnesses, not valuing holiness, living in
apathy toward the Body of Christ... on and on...
IF we can do those things, and experience no chastening from
the Father's hand, that means something. Let's wrestle with this, and if we
won't wrestle, well, you know...
